In other TRIVIUM-related news, this weekend marks an important day in the history of heavy metal. On February 13, 1970, BLACK SABBATH released its self-titled debut album. For many, this heralds the birth of heavy metal. It was the foundation upon which the sound of the genre has been built. In celebration of this Saturday's 40th "birthday of heavy metal," TRIVIUM and Metal Hammer magazine have teamed up to give a gift created from three generations of heavy metal — a ground-breaking artist inspired by BLACK SABBATH being covered by a modern metal band. Available for 48 hours only, U.K. metalheads can download a FREE MP3 of TRIVIUM covering SEPULTURA's "Slave New World". Not only that, Roadrunner Records are adding a special competition! When fans download their free MP3 from the Metal Hammer web site, they will also get the opportunity to win 40 Roadrunner albums of their choice and a signed TRIVIUM flag! Head to MetalHammer.co.uk at 4 p.m. (U.K. time) tomorrow (February 13) to download the track and enter the competition.
TRIVIUM recently announced Nick Augusto as their new permanent drummer. Augusto was introduced to TRIVIUM fans when he filled in behind the kit on last fall's "Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour" trek. He is now stepping in to permanently replace the departing Travis Smith.
Smith sat out the second leg of the band's North American "Into The Mouth Of Hell" tour in order to take care of "some personal business" at home.
TRIVIUM is heading right back out on the road, embarking on a tour of Asia, New Zealand, Australia and the U.K., which kicked off last night (February 11),in Jakarta, Indonesia and runs through March 24 in England. This will be the band's final tour dates in support of 2008's "Shogun". Once the tour ends, the band will head back to the studio to work on their next album for Roadrunner Records.
